Jeffrey T. Makoff has a broad litigation and corporate control practice, with 25 years of precedent-setting cases in commercial, securities-fiduciary, intellectual property, media and business law. Mr. Makoff trained at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom under California's leading trial and appellate lawyers, including the legendary jury lawyer Frank Rothman. Mr. Makoff represents public and private companies, individuals and substaintial trusts, in a wide range of legal matters. He handles jury and bench trials and arbitrations throughout California. Mr. Makoff was selected as one of Northern California’s Super Lawyers in 2012 and 2005.

In his trial and appellate practice, Mr. Makoff handles substantial business, fiduciary-trust, intellectual property and art law cases. In his corporate control practice, Mr. Makoff negotiates shareholder/partner buyouts, key executive compensation and severance agreements and handles litigation related to the management and operational restructuring of corporations/LLCs, partnerships, distributorships, trusts and other business interests. Mr. Makoff is often consulted by family law practitioners on the management, control and division of large and complex marital estates, and by stakeholders in trusts that own or control business interests or assets that require restructuring, litigation or risk management. Mr. Makoff has been appointed receiver or trustee by courts in San Francisco, Monterey, Marin and Contra Costa counties.

Mr. Makoff was an editor of the Hastings International and Comparative Law Review and authored "Attorney-Client Privilege in the European Communities After AM&S v. Commission: The Secret Is Out," 7 Hast. Int'l & Comp. L. Rev. 459 (1984), as well as articles on civil RICO, copyright, antitrust and litigation investigation. He co-authored a book on decision-making that was distributed nationally by the publishers of the Chicken Soup series. Mr. Makoff has international business experience as the Co-Chairman of DigitalCustom Group, Inc. He is licensed to practice law in California and Washington, D.C.

Mr. Makoff received his J.D. in 1985 from the University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Mr. Makoff received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in 1981, cum laude, from the University of California at Los Angeles.

Mr. Makoff's outside interests include mountain biking, tennis and creative writing.
